About 5 kilometres from our apartment lies one of Austria’s most impressive castles, Hochosterwitz Castle. You can take a trip there from April to October, when it is open to the public. It is a very interesting place with a rich history, archaeological findings in the area date back to the Bronze Age and the first written mention comes from 860.

It is therefore recommended to set aside at least 1.5 hours for the tour. Here you will find an armoury with a collection of weapons, traditional crafts and Renaissance paintings. There are also frequent concerts, painting exhibitions and festivals, so you might be lucky enough to take away an even greater experience from the castle. The castle also has a restaurant serving traditional Carinthian cuisine.

If you’re drawn to the outdoors after absorbing some history, you can head to the nearby beautiful natural lake Längsee, where you can also go swimming.
